Christmas Means God Cares

Christmas does not mean shopping or glitz.  It does mean God cares!

Luke 2:21 21 And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

You shall call His name Jesus for He shall save His people from their sins.”

God has always had a plan.  From the beginning He said He would work it out:

Genesis 3:15 15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

Isaiah 7:14 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.  {God with us}

The birth of Jesus is recognized at Christmas which is the compound of Christ (the Anointed One) and mass (meaning celebration).  It is the celebration of the arrival of the Anointed One.

John 1:14 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

God always cared; always planned; always required belief in Messiah-Savior-Lord (In Him will I trust).  A Savior was required due to mankind’s fall from the glory.

Romans 3:23 23 for all have sinned {distant past in Adam} and fall short {continuously now} of the glory of God,

God chose Israel and raised up a people with special favor and attention. This special revelation carried a special requirement to keep God’s Law. If they did, the glory of God would come down and change things…and if not, it would lift.

Moses on Sinai – “show me your glory” and his face shone.

  Moses at Tabernacle – cloud covered and glory filled the Tabernacle

  Solomon’s Temple – cloud covered and glory filled the Temple.

But, people wanted the favor of God without the responsibility of obedience to Him and made their own standards. Imagine a game where everyone has their own rules… or baseball without an umpire.

God grew weary of this so He left. Scripture shows He left the threshold without notice, the Altar without notice, the surrounding wall without notice, and even the mountains without notice. It would then be as if we got in the bus but the driver never showed up!

It was “Ichabod” (meaning, the glory departed) for 500 years after Malachi and before Christ. God was missing from the scene.  There was no Jehovah Rapha (Healer), Jehovah Nissi (Banner), Jehovah Jireh (Provider), Jehovah Tsidkenu (Righteousness), Jehovah Raah (Shepherd), Jehovah Shammah (Presence), or Jehovah Shalom (Peace)…

But God had a plan from the beginning:

Isaiah 9:6 6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jesus came and the glory was back with Wonder, Counsel, Might, Peace, Provision, Healing.  The 500-year absence of the glory ended!

Luke 2:9-11 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Savior – Christ – Lord – Good news, the one to crush Satan’s head is here!

Luke 2:12-14 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

God’s will is wrapped up in Christmas. It is a story of the love of God and the reunion of heaven and earth.

Note: It is unthinkable for shepherds to leave sheep…but these are no longer ordinary shepherds.  They heard the Good News and now must see…

Luke 2:15 15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”

They must act and see this Savior – Christ – Lord bringing Peace and Goodwill!

Luke 2:16-17 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.

They must act, see, and tell of the Savior – Christ – Lord bringing Peace and Goodwill.

The child will grow and demonstrate the ministry of Goodwill: Jehovah Rapha = Healer / Jehovah Nissi = Victory / Jehovah Jireh = Provider / Jehovah Tsidkenu = Righteousness / Jehovah Raah = Shepherd / Jehovah Shammah = Presence / Jehovah Shalom = Peace.

We, too, have seen the Wonder, Counsel and Might and we, too, must tell others that there is born to you a Savior, Messiah, Lord bringing Peace and Goodwill.

2 Corinthians 3:18 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.   {The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory.}

2 Corinthians 4:6 6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

The glory IS BACK!  The serpent’s headship is broken! Christ in you is the Hope of Glory.  Jesus Christ is Lord – The Seed of the woman has crushed Satan’s head!

His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

He is Jehovah-Rapha = Healer / Jehovah Nissi = Victory / Jehovah Jireh = Provider / Jehovah Tsidkenu = Righteousness / Jehovah Raah = Shepherd / Jehovah Shammah = Presence / Jehovah Shalom = Peace.

Come fully into the ministry of peace on earth, goodwill toward men this Christmas – celebrate Christ in health, victory, provision, righteousness, guidance, presence, and peace!
