Our Walk with Jesus to the Corner’s of the World; July 2012 Mission’s

This month as we consider our work with missions, the Lord has put on our heart a theme of “Just Do It.” Yes, this may remind you of a tennis shoe commercial but it has a larger meaning here at The Church of Grace and Peace.

WEEKLY MISSIONS PRAYER: As many of you know we currently pray for our missionaries now more than ever. We pray on nearly a weekly basis. We send out very specific prayer requests based on the needs of the missionaries we support around the world. We also send out immediate prayer needs that may come in during the week from time to time. Intercessory prayer is a powerful way for us to aid in the mission’s field from home. These requests are sent directly from our missionaries. If you are not currently on the email list and would like to help, give your email to one of the ushers during any of the services during the week and make a difference. These requests could be prayed over in less than 15 minutes.

MONTHLY MISSIONS PRAYER: We also have a “Monthly Mission’s Prayer Initiative” where we meet right after second service once a month on “Missions Sunday.” This is done at our world map in the sanctuary. Missions Sunday is always the last Sunday of the month. Our prayer coordinator will have copies of the requests which encompass the entire month. This covers the missionary’s most urgent needs all over the world. It is also a time of “Praise” where we give the Lord credit for all of the amazing things he has done in the mission field. All are invited and you can spend 5 minutes, 15 minutes, or whatever the Lord lays on your heart. This is a powerful way to make a large impact with a very small investment of time. We believe this prayer meeting should draw a “crowd!” (You are already here!) There are not many other places that you can make an impact on the WORLD with a 15 minute investment of time once a month.

MISSIONS TEAM: Another area for missions involvement is “The Missions Team.” Becoming a member of the missions team should start with prayer. We are looking for committed GAP members that may be led by the Lord to missions. You could become a member of the Missions Team where you would be considered for short-term missions trips and/or volunteer to help out in a number of other areas pertaining to missions at the church office, etc. If the Missions Team is something on your heart, please call the church office and leave your name and number and let them know you have a missions question. Someone from the Missions Team will contact you.

YEARLY MISSIONS EMPHASIS WEEK: Last but surely not least, is our Missions Pledge Initiative. Yearly we have a “Mission’s Emphasis Week.” We bring in guest speakers from all over the world. They share the powerful way that our Lord works through them and their team to bring souls to Christ. It is put together to bring awareness of what, how and why we commit to our missionaries. We end this week with an exciting “International Dessert Event” where the congregation can fellowship with many of the missionaries, get information and get questions answered. You can also share in some dessert and pledge to support our missions field. This past March during our “Missions Emphasis Week” our congregation pledged nearly $140,000.00 for our mission’s field. OUR CHALLENGE is many folks that have pledged have yet to give. This is vital to our missionaries who are out in the field, many of them in harm’s way needing our help. We do understand that situations do arise that prevent some people from following through on their best laid intentions. We are asking all people to PRAY about the commitment they have made to missions and do your best. The Lord understands your situation and has it all under control. We appreciate your support and thank you!
