Life Groups – Connecting on a Real Level Print

Are you plugged in to a life group yet? If not, there is good news. The Church of Grace and Peace offers multiple life groups that are ready to welcome you. Let us help you find a group that fits you. We have groups meeting in different towns almost every night of the week. We also have daytime groups, groups for seniors, a young adults group, and groups with singles and couples combined. We even have groups that focus on certain topics, such as worship and prayer, which run in a series. These short-term groups have a revolving membership. Life groups are about connecting with each other. We are all parts of the Body of Christ – joined together so that all the “parts should have equal concern for each other.” (1 Cor. 12:25b NIV) Author of The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren says, “You can worship with a crowd, but you can’t fellowship with one.” This is precisely why we need and have life groups. Our services are a great opportunity to come together to encounter God through worship and to be equipped for His service through the spoken Word. However, these special meetings are not the most conducive setting to become truly relational with one another. Real fellowship happens face to face in life group settings where a few people know you well.

Let’s make a distinction between what is commonly called fellowship, surface level chatting about interests and activities, and genuine fellowship, which is deep heart to heart sharing that goes beyond the outward façade. Life groups are a place where you will find caring individuals who will get to know you and your needs. They are safe places where the masks can come off, and you can open up to others without fear of rejection or judgment. It might be risky to share with others on this level, but we all need to relate in this way to maintain spiritual health and growth. The rewards are great! Not only will you find encouragement from people who want to grow in God just like you, but there will be others to agree with you in prayer for your needs, as they, in turn, draw from the strength of your prayers.

To find a group near you, stop by our bulletin board in the lobby for a complete listing of groups, including directions to each location. You can also contact us at (732) 349-1550, ext. 201. We would be happy to recommend a life group for you.
