Missionaries to the Bariai People of Papua, New Guinea
Steve and Carol Jean Gallagher are Wycliffe Bible Translators in Papua, New Guinea. They have been at Ukarumpa since November and will remain there until June 2008.
Steve Gallagher filled in as Regional Director for the island’s team and as Translator Coordinator. In April, they will bring two co-translators to Ukarumpa to translate the book of Romans. Carol Jean juggles the roles of Scripture Use Coordinator and mom, as well as preparing Bariai Literacy and Scripture Use materials. Steve and Carol Jean have two children, Erin and Adam.
They promote literacy and the use of Scripture via courses teaching God’s Character; Sin and the Law; Jesus, the Lamb of God, and Salvation; Relating to God and God Is In Charge!; Prayer, including Transformations video (showing revival after sincere prayer); Origin of Spirits and Satan’s Strategies. They also monitor the progress of the Bible translation into Bariai. While we were in the village, Steve was able to check the villagers’ comprehension of the Gospel of John. We are thankful to God for giving us enough days of good weather to finish this and to show the Bariai the JESUS video in seven main villages.
Praise to God… • that the Book of John has been village checked • for good interest at the Bariai Scripture Use course in November • for good health and safe travel • for God’s provision of our financial needs
Please pray… • that those who attend the Bariai Scripture Use course will apply and pass on what they’ve learned • that the Bariai people will give wholehearted allegiance to God and abandon the practice of appeasing the spirits • that Steve will be helpful as he consults and checks the translation for other teams • that Carol Jean will be able to produce Literacy and Scripture Use materials
The Gallaghers want to say, “Thank you for your prayers that advance God’s Kingdom among the Bariai people.” |
