Greetings from East and Central Africa.
Greetings from East and Central Africa. Tori and Eirik are back in the States studying at Southeastern and Elim. They had a fruitful summer here ministering to the Tongwe (an unreached people group) just south of us. They and their Tanzanian partners, distributed over 11,400 New Testaments, started five churches, and saw over 250 Tongwe people make commitments to Christ. They had a team from Florida who helped with some of this as well.
I traveled to Dar es Salaam for a crusade with Norwegian evangelist, Aril Edvardsen, and two Norwegian/Americans, Pastors Phil and Mark Aarstad, from Oasis in Beacon, New York. It was thrilling to see thousands come forward for salvation! From there, the Aarstads and I traveled on to Uganda to teach at the missions seminar. Oasis has been supporting the work here in Africa for about 20 years. Thank the Lord for their faithfulness and for the faithfulness of so many of you who make what we do here possible.
We had 120 leaders in attendance for the missions conference in Uganda. This is now the third time I have been there sharing the vision of Ugandan churches sending missionaries to the unreached. Uganda is strategically located to reach out into the neighboring country of Sudan. Sudan alone has 169 unreached people groups. Pray with us that we will soon see Ugandan missionaries going into the Sudan. This last seminar was a big step in that direction. We had the regional and district overseers of the Elim Pentecostal churches throughout the country, as well as overseers and leaders of other denominations. Lord willing, a missions training school in Uganda will be a reality soon.
It is great to be home for a few weeks this month. Usually, I am on the road teaching missions, but this month I get to stay home and teach missions in the Kigoma Bible School. Praise the Lord! I will be teaching for three weeks in the school and then doing a missions seminar in the Burundian refugee camps the last week of the month.
Next month, we have our Annual General Meeting of PEFA in Mwanza, which will give us a good opportunity to get reports on how the missions training is going around the country. Here in Tanzania, the mission seminars are now being taught by our national leaders on the district and pastorate levels. Please pray with us for the opening of the missions school in Tanzania. It was supposed to start in October, but when you are trying to get all the denominations to participate in the leadership of it, it takes patience. Lord willing, it will be up and running soon.
After the Annual General Meeting, I will be teaching missions in Egon Falk's school in Arusha, followed by two weeks of mission seminars in Burundi. After those seminars, we will have a meeting with the denominational leaders in Bujumbura to plan the first missions training school in Burundi.
Please keep Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Congo, and Rwanda in your prayers. We have been sharing the vision of reaching the unreached. The church leaders of numerous denominations in all five of these countries are excited about it. Now we are getting to the stage of their actually doing something about it. Pray as the churches begin sending missionaries for training, and then to the unreached. We ask you to also pray about what God would have you do. The national churches here are going to send their missionaries for training and then take care of the personal support of their missionaries as they go. We would love to have churches and individuals come alongside them and adopt the same people group. You could send teams, help with projects, join in prayer, and focus on reaching a group of people that have so far been beyond the reach of the Gospel. Wouldn't it be great to truly partner with an African church? Even better, you could be a part of reaching the unreached. Think about it. Better yet, pray about it!
God bless you! Thank you again for standing with us in prayer, support, and love.
