Angel Food… hmmm, sounds like something akin to manna, doesn’t it? Well, in a sense it certainly is... because I think it’s God’s provision. Angel Food is the name of the ministry we began distributing food for here at The Church of Grace and Peace in October. Our reason for becoming an Angel Food distribution site was to bless the community, as well as local churches, by providing quality food at bargain prices.
When this was announced at church, we asked if anyone would like to volunteer to help out at such an outreach and WOW, were we thrilled to see over 150 people offer to be of assistance. What is even more exciting is that there will be need for ALL of them to help very soon. There are opportunities on “Delivery Day” for families to help out, including the teenagers. During the month, we have many who chose to invest their time taking orders and placing orders – many hands make light work! It’s been a terrific experience to see the Body of Christ reach out to touch any and all of His children in a way that will benefit both giver and receiver. Our very first distribution was on October 25th and I think anyone who was there would say it was truly a sight to behold. We were able to distribute almost 1,300 boxes of food to local churches and to individuals who placed orders here at GAP. Everyone was blessed as we met and served so many in the name of the Lord. For November, our total is almost 1,600 boxes!
The purpose of Angel Food is to bring God’s love to His people, while providing a month’s supply of food more affordably. Fortunately, this new provision is not boring as some of the Israelites considered manna to be. Each month, there is a totally different menu. It starts with a regular basic box that sells for $30, but is worth nearly twice that amount. Then there is the senior/convenience basic box consisting of ten nutritionally balanced fully cooked meals – just heat and serve (today’s manna) for only $28. For December, there is another basic box, the Christmas Holiday Dinner box, consisting of a complete Christmas meal for a family of four at just $35.
What’s even better is that the provision doesn’t stop there. After you’ve purchased any one of the basic boxes, you are entitled to purchase as many of the special boxes as you would like. The specials average around $20 and are separated into various special meat groups, and even a fruit and veggie box loaded with fresh produce. For Christmas they also have two special gift boxes…one with fruit and another with cheeses and sausages.
The incredible advantage to all of this is that we are able to offer it to our community – come one, come all! We want to share the love of Christ and offer prayer to all those who might want it. There are no qualifications to meet to be able to order from Angel Food. We accept cash, money orders and food stamps. If you have access to a computer, you can even use your credit or debit card by placing your order online at www.graceandpeace.org; simply click on the Angel Food button, then scroll down to “online orders.”
Each month, we receive orders until about the middle of the month.
