To Prepare Church Members to be Agents of Transformation

DAY 8 … To Prepare Church Members to be Agents of Transformation

January 8: Pray that your church and churches across the nation would equip the body of Christ to do the work of the ministry, transform their spheres of influence, and impact the world for Christ in publicly meaningful and tangible ways. Pray for a foundation in the Word of God to be laid again in the lives of Christians and for the restoration of a biblical worldview in God’s people.

“His intention was the perfecting and full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), that they should do the work of ministering toward building up Christ’s body (the church),”

Ephesians 4:12 AMPC

To Experience God’s Presence and Power

DAY 7 … To Experience God’s Presence and Power

January 7: Pray that corporate gatherings will be marked by the tangible presence of God and that every time the people gather in large or small groups they will have a supernatural life-changing encounter with God. Ask in faith for God’s Spirit to manifest in awesome worship, powerful preaching of the Word, united fervent prayer, liberal giving acts of kindness, supernatural healings, miracles and new births in Christ.

“…enable your servants to speak your Word with great boldness. Stretch out Your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus. After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the Word of God boldly.” Acts 4:29-31, NIV

To Be Served by Visionary Leaders

DAY 6 … To Be Served by Visionary Leaders

January 6: Ask God to give your pastors and church leaders prophetic vision for the New Year. Pray that the Lord would revitalize each leader and his family spiritually, physically and mentally. Pray that the Lord would prepare “fresh bread” for them to serve God’s people. Ask God to show church leaders how they can speak to the issues of the day with boldness and truth and as such become reformers for society’s problems.

“I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me.” Habakkuk 2:1 NIV

Prepare Our Hearts

Prepare Our Hearts

We have a great example in Jesus, who would often be found hidden away in a solitary place of prayer. (Luke 5:16)  It was no mistake that he consecrated himself by prayer and fasting in the wilderness before he was tempted by the devil. (Matthew 4)

Before any significant beginning, it is fitting to seek the Lord and pray. He calls us to do so in 2 Chronicles 7:14.

“…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

The purpose is to pray for renewed spiritual passion, purpose and purity in our own lives. Then extend our prayers for awakening to our families, work place, churches, communities and the nation.

Would you join us for this crucial time of prayer, dedication and consecration during the first week of the new year? From January 1st through January 8th we will be dedicating those days for unified, focused prayer.  Each day of the prayer and fasting journey you will find a guide to help unify our hearts in our efforts to see God have His way in our lives, and at the Church of Grace and Peace in 2017.

THE CALL TO A FAST

In the Book of Joel – Chapters 1 and 2 – The Lord is directing a fast.

“…turn and keep on coming to Me with all your heart …” Joel 2:12 AMPC

“Rend your hearts and not your garments and return to the Lord, your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in loving kindness; and He revokes His sentence of evil …”

Joel 2:13

Blow the trumpet in Zion: set apart a fast – a day of restraint and humility; call a solemn assembly. Gather the people, sanctify the congregation…” Joel 2:15-16 AMPC

Fasting is a time set aside where we do without “something.” That is generally difficult for us. The “something” can be that which comes between us and God, like an idol, or that which takes up unnecessary time from our relationship with Him. It is a time for arresting the desires of the flesh and for taking on a spirit of humility.

Typically, fasting has come to be known as the giving up of food. If it is a food fast – it might be to take in liquids only; it may be to fast one or two meals per day, with liquids; it might also be where just specific foods are eliminated for the period of fasting.

However, in this day and age there are far more “things” that can place a wedge between us and our God. Fasting can also be about putting down hobbies, games, TV, internet – anything that demands more of our attention than spending time with the Lord. Only Holy Spirit knows that the best fast is for each of us. Ask Him – recognizing that whatever it may be, the grace to carry us through comes from Him.

Fasting is not only about putting down something; it is about picking up something. It is a time to replace what time that was previously used by eating, surfing the net, etc. with reading the Word, praying, quiet time with the Lord, and perhaps serving Him in a new capacity.

Joel 2:18-27 AMPC goes on to tell us that when the people fast, repent and pray in sincerity of heart, “then was the Lord jealous for His land and had pity on His people.” vs. 18 The Lord speaks to the land and says, “Fear not…” vs. 21 to the beasts of the field, “Be not afraid …” vs. 22; to the people He says, “Be glad…” vs.23 “…I will restore or replace for you the years that the locust has eaten… “vs. 25 And you shall know, understand, and realize that I am in the midst of Israel and that I the Lord am your God and there is none else….” vs. 27.
